Manila, Tagaytay, Quezon City, Makati - Philippines
The Philippines is a third-world country, a place where poverty remains high and slums of makeshift metal and plywood houses still dot across the cities. I was told to be careful, to be on-guard. It had been ten years since I last visited the Philippines, but the country is still my home. It's where my childhood memories began and where a large part of my family still resides. The hot humid air was oddly comforting as I stepped out of Ninoy Aquino Airport, maybe because it was the first welcome sign that I was finally back to my roots.
I flew to Hong Kong a few days later and was fortunate enough to explore the urban jungle with my cousin and childhood friend from the Philippines. We relieved old memories and made new ones along the way.
